Mom’s Morning Retreat is hosting our first book group discussion tomorrow (Thursday, September 24) from 9:30-11:00am at Grace Church. Childcare will be provided.
We will dive into what it means to find the “Sweet Spot” at home – with our things – and the spaces we inhabit by exploring whether or not there is a “freedom” that can be found through letting go. We will be reading and discussing The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. Our discussion will be skillfully facilitated by Bev Gaines. At the first meeting we will be discussing the first three sections (“Why can’t I keep my house in order,” “Finish discarding first,” and “Tidying by category works like magic”) but you needn’t worry: you are welcome to join us even if you haven’t yet cracked the book. This book is sure to evoke strong feelings – in agreement with Kondo’s strategy and resistance to it – the perfect fuel to help you get to the bottom of what might be standing the way of you “tidying” up your life the way you’d like.
“When your [space] is clean and uncluttered, you have no choice but to examine your inner state. You can see any issues you have been avoiding and are forced to deal with them. From the moment you start tidying, you will be compelled to reset your life. As a result, your life will start to change. That’s why the task of putting your house in order should be done quickly. It allows you to confront the issues that are really important.”
