Joy & Challenges of Loving Our Children

Do you see and know your children? I mean, really SEE and really KNOW? I know that I can easily go minutes, hours, days without really LOOKING at my child…really witnessing her growth and development, and understanding her personality as it develops. I wonder how that makes her feel. All of us long to be loved unconditionally, for who we are, not for what we do or don’t do, even the wee ones. How can we grow in our abilities to love our children in this way?

The Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu shared with the world their “Book of Joy.” In it, they outline the obstacles that get in the way of our joy, as well as the eight pillars that lead to joy. Let’s come together on Thursday, 11/16 at 9:30am at Grace Church, to share how the eight pillars (plus Bev’s 9th) can and are a part of our daily lives, can be harnessed and lead to more joyful homes and relationships with our children.

For instance, what if you get down to your kids level and see things from their perspective? How does humility play a role in your interactions? Perhaps the tickle monster needs to visit you and allow you to have more deep belly laughs. Are you holding on to things that could be transformed into acceptance and love? Let yourself be free from your past and find gratitude for today, all parts of it. How does compassion and generosity show up in your life? Deep topics that together we will explore, ponder, contribute examples to and hold space for one another to connect and replenish.

The weather is cold, but Mom’s Morning Retreat is off to a warm and loving start this year, filled with joy and delicious treats. Don’t miss this time to come together, with other moms, to share, to learn, to open your heart and your mind around joy and all that we have in common as those who love little people who grow into big people. And, bring a friend! It’s not too late to join us for this year, we would love to open our group to all moms. New faces are always welcome, returning faces are always celebrated. We will see you. We will hear you. See you on Thursday!
